Brief Consultation Therapy

Most situations in life are temporary. So when life is good, make sure you enjoy and embrace it fully.

When life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way.

Therapy doesn't have to last months and years. Solution-focused approaches can help in just a few sessions!

What is Brief Consultation Therapy?

Brief consultation therapy is an approach that uses techniques from evidence based, solution-focused interventions. Treatment plans range from about 2-6 sessions. This approach to treatment may not be the best fit for everyone; however, it can be very helpful for those that are struggling with highly specific concerns, experiencing unique life events, or are adapting to specific life changes. The best way to determine if a brief approach would be work for you is to contact me for your complimentary 15-minute consultation!

In a brief consultation approach, we will define your problem and identify desirable solutions, explore previous attempts to resolve the problem, identify challenging behaviors and obstacles, set specific goals for solving the problem, identify realistic changes, and put your plan into action.

We often call brief approaches “solution-focused” because we will focus more on targeting specific problems and desired solutions instead of opening up broader areas of concern and working on general emotional well-being. It is possible that we start with a brief plan, which leads you wanting more time and space to work on other areas of interest. This is fine and we will adjust your treatment as needed.

Is brief consultation therapy for me?

Solution-focused approaches are cost-effective, time-efficient, and flexible. We focus on the “here and now” and do not delve much into past or future concerns. This can be seen as both a pro and a con as processing the past can be time consuming; however, deep work can be meaningful and gratifying when it is needed and the time is right.

A brief approach is not less effective than or a “cheaper” substitute for traditional individual therapy. It is simply a different approach and plan to address specific concerns you have. If you are interested in brief consultation therapy please contact me to schedule your complimentary consultation. I will help you determine if a brief approach would be helpful for you!
